Apparently it’s National Email Week. I’ve never heard of it before, but in honor of it anyway, I have 2 email etiquette tips:
1: If you are a business, do NOT send out sales or promotions by Facebook email! Those emails by traditional email are sketchy alone and sometimes a nuisance, but when I receive it on my Facebook email, it really annoys me! It feels like a complete invasion of privacy to get a mass email on Facebook about a sale (that is what your business page wall is for). I immediately “unlike” the business as I don’t accept friend requests from businesses anyway so I don’t need to unfriend them.
2: Don’t send mass Facebook emails unless necessary. I have deleted many people for sending an email to myself and a hundred others because they want me to “vote” or “like” a Facebook contest they are in, or they need help with some Facebook game, etc. Unless it’s a really good reason (I lost my camera at said event and has anyone seen it), I hit “delete.” I hate being spammed by Facebook email with the “I”m entering a contest and please help me out” (that’s what YOUR wall is for). And the worst part is, then everyone else replies to the email thread and suddenly my email is going off like crazy for comments I don’t need to see. This is on the same level to me as the people who “forward” jokes to everyone in their email list by traditional email.
What are some of the most frustrating emails you’ve received?
